Much to England’s under 21 coach, Gareth Southgate’s surprise, Tom Ince has turned down a place in the squad. Informing him that he does not want to play for the Under-21s.
Ince is the son of former England captain Paul Ince, he has played 18 times for the Under-21s and had been expected to feature in this summer’s European Championships in the Czech Republic. However Ince has now withdrawn from the Competition.
Ince is currently on loan at Derby County in the Championship after a summer move to Hull City failed to see him secure a regular first team spot
Southgate has said “He (Ince) feels at this moment in time he has got some priorities at club level. There is some uncertainty about where he is going to be at club level next season.” “I have had discussions with Tom and his dad over the last week or so and he has decided he does not want to be considered for the Under-21s,”
“I have to say I was surprised. He has obviously been a regular for us all the way through the campaign.”
Is it really the big deal that the paper are trying to make out though? He is 23 after all and how long do you play for the England Under-21s for exactly? Have your say in the comments below.
